Two-stepping out of my comfort zone

So, you made it here.  I guess that means you took the bait on my post and thought… I NEED to see that video. Well, don’t worry it isn’t clickbait, its just down there for your viewing pleasure.

But before you scroll down, let me set the scene a little. If you know me, then you know if I’m on a dance floor it is either because I have drunk a bottle of Jack Daniels, or it is 1997, we are in the Bon Bonne and the Sandy B deep dish remix just came on.  I am well aware of my rhythmic limitations, so back in December when I was attending the Scottish PPA Awards with my clients NewsTeam Group, comedian and host Craig Hill well and truly called my bluff.

The evening started well enough, Craig had earmarked my name on the guestlist and we flirted our way through the opening sections as if the 400 people in the room were just there to enjoy our show.  I think I did ok, only disappointing him a little when he, like many of you, realised my dulcet South London tone didn’t quite match the name, and probably the ‘Dolmio’ voiceover he was expecting to hear.

Then Craig announced he wanted me in a dance-off to 1977 Baccara classic ‘Yes sir, I can boogie’.  The song is now a popular anthem for fans of the Scottish national football team, but previously an 80’s disco classic on the LGBTQ club scene.

I melted in my chair, and in that fraction of a second I had about 384 conflicting thoughts, but my body had overriden my brain and with all the faux confidence of my teenage years, I was somehow walking towards the stage.  The photo looks good, I mean, check out Craig staring at me in motion. But now you can watch the clip and see why I won’t be challenging Strictly champion and ‘paisano’ Giovanni Pernice anytime soon.

Whilst it wasn’t a conventional approach to networking, I certainly had the best opening introduction to everyone at the after party. It was a much better second half of 2021 for my little business, and I’ve updated my case studies page if you want to look at some of those. I’ve gone straight into this new year with some new and exciting client projects, and it seems that having lived far outside my comfort zone for 2 years, and of course with my dance partner Craig, things are moving forward again.  By the end of March I hope to have my first employee on board. I fully intend to develop the rewards of working with some amazing clients and if you are looking for support or input to your own business, or just a shit dancer for your event then get in touch.
